About Apollo Hospitals
In 1971, Dr Prathap Reddy returned to India, leaving behind a flourishing practice in Boston. Upon his return, he found the medical landscape in the country lacking in infrastructure, delivery and affordability, which led to the loss of one of his young patients. This tragic event steeled Dr Reddy’s resolve to bring world-class healthcare to India, beginning with India’s first multi-speciality private sector hospital.
“Our mission is to bring healthcare of international standards within the reach of every individual. We are committed to the achievement and maintenance of excellence in education, research and healthcare for the benefit of humanity”.
Apollo Hospitals opened its doors in 1983, and nearly 42 years later it has touched and enriched more than 42 million lives across 120 countries. Not only it is one of the largest integrated healthcare groups in the region, it has also successfully catalysed the private healthcare revolution in India.
That is akin to touching a million lives each year.
Apollo Hospitals proudly unveils its revolutionary Digi-Smart Lab, a state-of-the-art, fully automated facility designed to enhance patient care and clinical outcomes with minimal human intervention. This cutting-edge laboratory is powered by a cloud-based digital infrastructure, setting new benchmarks in medical diagnostics.Spanning an impressive 45,000 square feet, the Central Reference Laboratory (CRL), a pioneering endeavor by Apollo Hospitals Group, offers an extensive test menu of over 3,000 tests, catering to clients across India and Southeast Asia.
Equipped with world-class molecular technology, this next-generation lab is at par with the best in the world. With the capacity to process more than 1,00,000 samples per day without human intervention, it is poised to be a game-changer in the healthcare industry.
A compassionate humanitarian, Dr. Reddy has dedicated his life to making world-class healthcare afford able and within the reach of the masses.
Dr. Reddy received his medical degree from Stanley Medical College in Chennai and later trained as a cardiologist in the UK and USA. Following his Fellowship from the Massachusetts General Hospital, he went on to head several research programs at the Missouri State Chest Hospital, where he worked for several years before returning to India in 1971.
At a time when private healthcare institutions were unknown in our country, his new hospital attracted the best medical talent, including eminent NRI doctors from the US and UK, to provide worldclass healthcare that could be accessible to every citizen.
The plight of the Indian medical landscape spurred him into setting up Apollo Hospitals in Chennai. Dr. Reddy’s mantra has been to identify the healthcare needs of India, and fill the lacuna using a blend of innovation technology and commitment.
